Dr. Crain

History

I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana- the last of seven. We moved a few times (including a couple of years in Anchorage) before settling in Danville, CA. After high school I went to Humboldt State and started towards a degree in psychology. My career goals at that point were to become a marriage family and child counselor. My interests were redirected, however, when I took a course in neurology. It really got me interested in human biology and the health sciences, especially patient care. I decided then to focus more on the organic side of the human condition and later graduated with honors. I did have a brief detour between receiving my undergraduate degree and entering chiropractic college though, as what was a summer job for me every year on an offshore oil platform in Santa Barbara would lead into a two year job in Kuwait, taking part in the oil well fire fighting efforts following the Gulf War. The work was difficult and a little dangerous but allowed me to travel quite a bit during my time off. When all the fires had been extinguished (in late 1993) I came home and started towards my degree in chiropractic at Life West Chiropractic College in Hayward. Life West is known for it’s strong emphasis on adjusting technique. During the last year there, which is spent mainly seeing patients in clinic, I took a few trips to Mexico volunteering in a hospital in Delicias. After passing the state and national board exams I started my practice in Foster City under the name Crain Chiropractic. I was located in the Mariner Medical building and I practiced there for ten years before moving to Belmont.

Why I became a Chiropractor

While pursuing my major at Humboldt I was very active in the university’s biofeedback center and managed to help a few individuals with their migraine headaches. Not only did I find that I liked the feeling of improving another’s health, the science of human anatomy and physiology fascinated me. Thinking that health care was for me, I looked into the different disciplines and was fortunate at the time to rent property from a local friendly chiropractor. She gave me an overview of the profession and an adjustment, and I could tell it was ideal for me. I‘ve always been good with my hands and my experience with biofeedback had shown me that there are ways to build health without drugs or surgery. I think chiropractic champions this principle.

Athletics

Growing up and into college, I was very active in baseball. Those days are gone now and you can find me desperately trying to leg out a double on several local softball teams. I play a lot of golf, however, and am actually pretty good. I have a professional interest in golf as well as I’ve taken post graduate programs on chiropractic’s role in the sport.

Hobbies

My primary hobby has always been playing the guitar but I also like cooking (and eating) as well as watching the History Channel.
