Dr. Tollstrup

History

I was born in 1955 in Whittier, California. I spent my childhood growing up in Southern California raised by loving parents who were both educators. My upbringing focused on the importance of learning and health. We were a very active family. My parents, brother and I were always involved in sports. I developed a keen interest in education and learning, especially in the field of health sciences. I attended high school in La Habra, California where I graduated second in my class, and was awarded two scholarships to attend California Sate University at Fullerton. There I completed my pre-medical studies with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Physics. I then attended Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles for four years and received my Doctor of Chiropractic degree with Magna Cum Laude honors. The last year of chiropractic school included an internship in the schools’ clinic to gain experience. I then recieved an invitation to practice chiropractic in Milan Italy, in their main hospital. I lived and practiced there for five years. Followed by five years or private practice in Denver Colorado. The last 20 years of practice have been here in the Peninsula.

Why I became a Chiropractor

Early on in high school, I already had come to the conclusion I would enjoy a career in healthcare. I had a great interest in the health sciences and enjoyed helping people. At the university I went through the pre-medical program. Upon completion, my father suggested I spend some time with various healthcare providers to get a better idea of their specialties. I spent time with an orthopedist, an optometrist, our family doctor and dentist, and orthodontist, etc. During this time my father also recommended that I spend time with a chiropractor. He had experienced great results with a local chiropractor so I took his advice. Thank goodness I did. I much preferred what the chiropractor did on a day-to-day basis, helping his patients naturally, without the use of drugs or surgery. He was the only provider who made it clear that he loved his work, and his patients clearly loved him. In practice since 1979, I love helping others through chiropractic more than ever.

Athletics

I’ve participated in many sports growing up. I enjoyed football, baseball, basketball and track events and played on competitive teams until entering college. I also enjoyed surfing and motocross racing. I still enjoy a lot of tennis, skiing, golf, martial arts, running and weight lifting. Martial arts has been particularly challenging, and I recently received my black belt in two styles. I coached baseball and soccer, and love spending time with my athletic son. I enjoy treating athletes and sports injuries, as I can relate so well and have lots of experience in this arena.

Hobbies

My favorite hobbies include coaching athletics, foreign travel, dining, reading, and gardening. Now, if I just had more time for them.

Travel

The travel bug hit me when I spent three months traveling around Europe upon graduating from college. I then had even greater traveling opportunities while in practice in Italy in Milan's main hospital for 5 years. I have seen Europe extensively, Morocco, Sudan, Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, the Carribean and Canada. I try to visit Italy every few years to this day due to my lovely experience there.

How to Choose a Chiropractor

*In choosing a chiropractor you should find one with at least 10 years experience and preferrable 15 or more.

*It's important to see a chiropractor that is well versed in many different treatment techniques so they may utilize what is best for your particular condition.

*There is a big advantage to treat with a chiropractor who has X-ray and physiotherapy equipment on site for treatment and diagnosis purposes.

*Select a chiropractor who will refer you out to other specialists when indicated.

*Choose a chiropractor who maintains his postgraduate education up to date.

If you, or someone you know needs help finding a good chiropractor, I am happy to assist in your search.
